Getting a ride

Among Lots of People

Here’s one I shot on a busy evening in London.

There were loads of people milling around. Christmas shopping and enjoying being out with family and friends.

The problem is this…

When there are loads of people, it can be difficult to decide where the shots are.

So, it makes sense to try and focus on one group. Or even one person.

With that in mind, I kept a look out for opportunities.

I spotted the cycle-taxi further down the road. There wasn’t a photo there — yet.

I followed him up the road, figuring he would pull over at some point. It was interesting because there were so many people… I had to dodge and weave like a football player.

Then, I saw him stop outside fortnum & Mason.

I framed up a shot and…

It didn’t look right.

So, I darted across the road, avoiding taxis, bikes and more people. Then, framed up my shot.

Aha, now I had it.

But I waited. I wanted to catch the interaction between the rider and his customers.

I had to keep an eye over my shoulder so I didn’t get mowed down by someone an e-bike or scooter.

And the rider turned to talk to his clients.

Click.

There was my photograph.

So, being among loads of people is a great challenge.

See, you on the streets…
