Pentax 17

The 35mm Experiment

I started out by shooting on film back in the Seventies.

So, when Ricoh announced the Pentax 17, it caught my attention.

Because I’d been thinking about giving film a go again.

But not because I’ve fallen out with digital or anything like that. I just like experimenting with a camera.

And I do like the aesthetic of film. Perhaps that’s me being nostalgic.

Anyhoo…

As you can see, I bought one a while back. And I must admit, I’ve been having a lot of fun shooting with it.

Although I wasn’t certain how it would work out for street photography. So, I’ve been shooting anything, anywhere with it to try it out.

And I have to say: it’s a whole lot of camera. Don’t believe the reports that say it’s a basic point-and-shoot.

I mean, sure, you can use it like that if you want.

But with zone-focusing and a ‘P’ mode, it has got enough going on to keep me happy. You can even use fill-in flash.

Furthermore, I’ve broken my own working practice and shot colour film. Yes, colour. I mean, I’m not likely to do any more. But in the spirit of trying the camera out, I thought I’d give colour a go.

So, I will upload a gallery of photos I’ve shot with it. And I’ll add a few more posts with photos shot on the 17.

But if you are thinking of getting one, go for it. It won’t disappoint you.
