The Power of Three
Here’s one where I was deliberate in planning the outcome I wanted.
I’d placed myself so that the backdrop looked decent. But then, it was about waiting for the right combination of people.
And I watched people pass by; an idea struck me.
I’d read before that an odd number of elements in a photo is more powerful than an even number. It creates a dynamic feel because our brains seek order with even numbers.
Also, making shapes in the composition is a decent idea, too. You can see the “triangle” of people in this shot.
Indeed, that was deliberate, too. I had to wait a while. And a few test shots didn’t work. But this one did.
While it’s true that street photography often needs rapid reactions. You can also be deliberate. Oh, and one other thing…
You may be wondering why I didn’t move to make everything centred. The answer is for the same reason. The off-centre background helps to create a sense of dynamism, too.
