The Street Photography Thing
Street photography is compelling because you never know what will happen.
I was out on a photo walk in the city centre. It was a grey, gloomy day when the cold, damp air found its way to my bones.
But people were out and about, so that was fine. Because street photographers need people.
The trouble was, most people were hurrying from place to place because of the weather. It was making it difficult to find the moments worthy of a photograph.
So I stayed sharp, bought a coffee, and considered my options.
Then, I decided to slow down a bit. Sure, it was cold, but If I watched and waited…
Sure enough, I saw this group of people approaching me. And one man was animated. I kept moving slowly forward but with the GR 111 ready so I could tap the LCD screen to grab the photo.
It was just a matter of timing. As they got closer, I tapped the screen and…
Click.
There was my photo.
That reminded me of two key factors in street photography: you never know what will happen and timing is everything.
